QC Services

Standard RNA QC Service includes NanoDrop and Agilent analysis of samples to assess concentration/purity and integrity, respectively.  Agilent DV200  Analysis is also available upon request. 

Fluorometric quantification of RNA & cDNA is also available upon request.

QC Services will occur within 1-3 business days upon receipt of samples.

Sample submission guidelines for RNA QC Service

  • Please submit a minimum of 4uL in nuclease-free 0.2mL strip-tube(s). Caps should be labeled 1-XXX.  PI name & date must be on one or two tubes in the strip.  If Qubit quantification is also requested, we request 5uL.
  • Sample Submission sheet must contain sample IDs that match tube cap number.

Samples will be QC’d within 1-3 business days.  Each RNA sample will be assayed on the NanoDrop One Spectrophotometer and Agilent Tapestation to assess concentration/purity and integrity, respectively.

Recommended A260/A280 ratio range 1.8 – 2.1; A260/A230 ratio should be similar indicating pure nucleic acids.

The A260/A280 ratio is used to assess the presence of protein and or phenol in the RNA sample.

The A260/A230 is used to  indicate the presence of unwanted organic compounds such as Trizol, phenol, Guanidine HCL and guanidine thiocyanate that are carried over from the RNA extraction procedure.

The Agilent RNA Integrity Number (RIN) is available in the Agilent assay file generated.  The RIN assigns a measurement of the level of degradation of the RNA in the extract from 1 to 10, with 10 being the least degraded. The DV200 calculation is available upon request.  DV200 is a quality assessment standard for RNA integrity that measures the percentage of RNA fragments that are larger than 200 nucleotides.

Samples submitted for QC Only are discarded upon completion of QC.
